Degradable materials change people's lives

What will degradable materials bring to our lives, and is there any difference in using them? In order to understand the application of degradable materials in real life, the researchers carried out demonstration and promotion in some communities in advance.

The most widely used degradable materials are garbage bags that are inseparable from every household. According to Beijing's regulations on garbage classification, kitchen waste needs to be dismantled and put away in bags, that is, garbage can be poured directly into kitchen waste bins, and plastic garbage bags should be thrown separately in other trash bins. But it is both troublesome and unhygienic in actual operation. This has also become one of the biggest pain points and difficulties in garbage classification. In response to this situation, starting from April this year, researchers have successively carried out pilot work on degradable garbage bags in many communities in Beijing. Nearly 1.2 million garbage bags have been distributed so far.

Standards promote the development of degradable plastics

On June 1 this year, the two recommended national standards "Biodegradable Plastics and Products Degradability and Labeling Requirements" and "Biodegradable Drinking Straws" were officially implemented, which means that the promotion and application of degradable material products has been greatly accelerated.

The ISO 5424:2022 Plastics — Industrial compostable plastic drinking straws "Plastic Industrial Compostable Plastic Straws" drafted and formulated by Ningbo Jialian Technology Co., Ltd., Yiwu Shuangtong Daily Necessities Co., Ltd., and Beijing Technology and Business University was approved and released, which is led by my country An international standard formulated in the field of biodegradable materials and products.

In September 2019, Beijing Technology and Business University and relevant units submitted a project application for the formulation of ISO 5424 to the ISO/TC61/SC14 Secretariat. In March 2021, it was successfully registered as a CD draft. In September 2021, it entered the DIS stage. In April 2022 Entering the FDIS stage, the standard will be officially released at the end of July 2022. In the process of drafting and formulating in the past three years, domestic and foreign industry experts have been organized to complete repeated discussions and demonstrations on various indicators of industrial compostable plastic straws.
